A Civil Stand

Photo by David Peterson on Pexels.com
You want your voice to be heard?
Don't be another sheep in the herd
You want to make a difference?
Look in the mirror and find what's missing
You want to protest?
That's fine
Just leave out the crime
There's already enough violence and rage
Don't be the next to end up in a cage
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness"
As Martin Luther King Jr. once said
So let's take a civil stand instead
Let us be divided no more
Let us not begin the next civil war
Let us stand hand in hand
Side by side
This is true American Pride

Cotton Candy Sky

Painted colors atop
Streaks of pink and blue
I can't help but stop
And gaze at such a wonder
It's amazing how I'm merely a speck
On this painting that I stand under
Pink and blue
Watching them turn a different hue
How they blend so seamlessly
I'm awestruck as I stare dreamily
Seems so surreal
It's hard to fathom such a sight is real
This painting has majestic splendor
It's all thanks to our Creator

Reflection

I couldn't see myself staring back at me
It was nothing but a blank stare
When I would see myself standing there
It wasn't until I saw my true reflection
That I saw perfection
Courage and intelligence
Beauty and elegance
I stare with such reverence
The reflection staring back at me
Wasn't me, you see
It was you

Skewed World

Warm sun
Carefree fun
 Outside all day
Enjoying the time I had to play
Wandering alone in the store
Deciding what item I wanted more
As a kid, this was the world I once knew
A world which wasn’t skewed
Today, a skewed world is what we have
Where differences divide us into halves
Where senseless acts of violence is all we see
I guess freedom isn’t so free
The land that was built on diversity
Sees ignorance and immaturity
When someone is ridiculed and despised for being who they are
Seems the end result is a death toll and a broken heart
How did this world become so skewed?
Is it because love has become obscured?
This skewed world that’s so divided
Must come together and be united
Stop the madness
Live in peace, love and happiness

Head Space

Let me into your head space
Let me listen to the thoughts your mind creates
I wanna hear the gears grind
I wanna know what goes on in that beautiful mind
Expose to me your organized chaos
Even the thoughts you find dross
Show me the paths of your thought process
Even if they should digress
Allow me to embrace
Your resplendent head space

Love Forevermore

I love you more than you know
From the tip of my tongue
To the depths of my soul
Through the highs and the lows
Together we will grow
I’ll always be by your side
You need not fear being alone
Because I’m here to love you forevermore

My Gratitude

Hello everyone! First, let me begin by saying thank you for showing my poetry blog some love :). I really appreciate it. I honestly didn’t expect much when I started posting my poems but I am happy it turned out well for its second day being live. I actually started this project last October but it was it ended up being on pause until this week. I just woke up Monday dead set on picking up where I left off and I am glad I did! Ever had that moment where you were in the zone and time just got away before you knew it? That was me and I’d have to say it’s been a good while since I have been that focused on something. I definitely enjoyed my time though. There’s more where these poems came from most of which are scribbled on pieces of paper (i.e. receipt paper, paper bags, etc..). It’s time to convert them to the digital age. Better late than never right?

As my blog continues to grow, I will add some backstories to these pieces of my work as they were written during my most joyous and dark times. Being introverted, I usually don’t expose myself so deeply and so quickly to just anyone but, it’s time to step out of my comfort zone a little bit. I realized that this gift wasn’t given to me for just me. I believe I am to share this poetry with others because you never know who might need to hear words of comfort or strength. The gift of poetry is one of the most intimate and priceless gifts you can give someone as it lives on forever in the hearts of those we touched.

On that note, I bid you all adieu for now but stay tuned for more to come. 🙂

Misaligned

Looking through the lens of a pessimist
Feeling life's deficit
Storms raging
Emotions waging
Feeling diluted
Peace eluded
Soul exhausted
Hope halted
Energy depleted
Strength weakened
When there is no forward motion
And happiness seems like a far off notion
Now is the time
To rest and realign

Heartspoken

I’ll love you in the dark
I’ll love you in the light
I’ll love you in the pain
I’ll love you in delight
I’ll love you in the imperfections
I’ll love you in the mistakes
I’ll love you in good health
I’ll love you in the aches
I’ll love you in the whole
I’ll love you in the broken
With these words
My heart has spoken

Chains

Photo by Ali atiabi on Pexels.com
Shackled wrist
Shackled ankles
Your spirit is mangled
These chains that hold you down
Taking you under
Feeling like your going to drown
Tugging and pulling
With yourself, you're constantly dueling
You're wondering will this battle ever end
Wondering if you will ascend
These chains feel hopeless
But all you need to do is focus
You have the power
Realize you no longer have to cower
Grasp for freedom
Conquer the demons
No longer do you need these chains
Rise up
And take the reins
